The Institute is headed by an experienced Managing Director and a management team who are experts in their fields and their passion for education flows throughout the organisation.


John Maddock
Managing Director

Areas of Responsibility

John has been the Chief Executive Officer of Box Hill Institute in Australia since early December 1999. He is also the Managing Director of Box Hill Enterprises, Box Hill Institute Singapore and the Chairman of the Board of the Singapore operation.

He is responsible for educational leadership within the Institute. This includes strategic positioning and promotion of the Institute within government, industry and the community as well as strategic planning and development. He is also accountable for the Institute's business growth, management and financial performance of all of its operations.

Professional Background

John has wide experience in vocational education and training (VET) across areas of responsibility such as a strategic and business planning; business development; marketing and public relations; information services; international education; VET program delivery; development of flexible delivery modes; entrepreneurial and commercial activities; VET research; quality and customer service initiatives; and financial management.

His previous roles include:
  • CEO at the Gordon Institute of TAFE for 4 years from January 1996 to December 1999
  • Five years as Deputy Director at Box Hill Institute of TAFE [Jan '90 - Dec 95] responsible for both the strategic planning and operations of the commercial business development for the Institute including its international operations
  • Ten years prior to that, held a variety of management roles at Moorabbin Institute of TAFE
  • Chair of the Victorian Government State Training System Industry Training Development Program; a State-wide strategic initiative to assist TAFE colleges to become commercially viable in the provision of services to industry and so generate self-funding income

Areas of Responsibility

Noel is the Singapore Chief Operating Officer and a Director of the Singapore operations of Box Hill Institute. He is also the Vice President International and Enterprises at Box Hill Institute in Australia where he is responsible for all international operations and growth in the commercial business activities of the Institute.

Specifically, Noel works across all areas of the Institute and with international clients and students to develop and build sustainable commercial, education and training partnerships that add value to our international clients and students.

Professional Background

Before rejoining Box Hill Institute in 2004, Noel was the Chief Executive Officer of International Training Australia (ITA) for eight years and also worked at senior executive level at Box Hill Institute during the period 1993 to 1996 when he was the Director Business Development.

As such, Noel has had extensive executive management experience within the international education and training sector and in providing human resource development and business solutions to public and private sector organisations.

This experience has found him covering large geographic regions and countries such as Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Brunei, Vietnam, Laos, the Philippines, China, Papua New Guinea, India, Nauru, the United Kingdom, Germany, Greece, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, the United States and Canada.


Valerie Lim

Areas of Responsibility

Valerie has been appointed as the Director of the Singapore operations of Box Hill Institute.

Professional Background

Valerie is the Managing Director of Gateway 21 Pte Ltd, with more than 20 years' experience in corporate compliance work and secretarial services.

Prior to managing her own practice, Valerie has held various senior management roles with Arthur Andersen, Asiaciti Management Pte Ltd, Abogado Pte Ltd being part of the international law firm, Baker & McKenzie.

Valerie is passionate about education and training. She has been a facilitator at SAICSA for the Fundamentals of Corporate Secretarial Practice course, covering topics such as Business Entities, Transfer and Transmission of shares, Directors' duties, Meetings, FS Manager, etc. since1996.

She also facilitates at other courses on Meetings Minuting and Procedures, Winding Up proceedings as well as members' forum and often attends to SAICSA's public enquiries for corporate secretarial related issues.

In addition, Valerie has assisted ALEXIS in conducting corporate compliance courses for non-legal professionals in law firms.

Areas of Responsibility

Dennis is the Campus Director and also a member of the Academic and Examination Board of the Singapore operations of Box Hill Institute.

Dennis is responsible for the overall strategic development and general management of Box Hill Institute Singapore, including leading and mentoring a team to serve and provide skills training and upgrading to the Community and Social Services sector in Singapore.

Professional Background

Dennis has spent over 15 yrs in the people sector in Singapore and Asia.

Prior to his current responsibility as Campus Director at Box Hill Institute Singapore, he was the Regional Vice President of SIFE (Students In Free Enterprise) in Asia.

Dennis was also the Deputy Executive Director of Singapore International Foundation (SIF) from 2000 to 2004. He served on the Remaking Singapore Committee, Beyond Clubs Sub-committee; and is currently on the Singapore Youth Award (SYA) Advisory Committee for Community & Youth Services.

Academic and Examination Board

The Academic and Examination Board comprises of three members: Dennis Lee, Campus Director (as described above) and two senior trainers: Steven Tan Wei Teck and Srabanti Ghosh.


Steven Tan Wei Teck, Trainer & Acting Academic Manager

Steven is a qualified professional Counsellor and a Family Life Educator. His passion is in promoting strong resilient families.

Steven has extensive international work experience in the community and social service sector. He has lived in and done mission work in Indonesia, India and Malaysia and also worked closely with different Volunteer Welfare Organisations (VWOs) and MCYS as Service provider for School Family Education (SFE) programmes in school.

He holds a Master of Social Science in Counselling from University of South Australia, and a Graduate Certificate in Parent Education Leadership Training (PELT) from Swinburne University, Australia.

Steven is a fully certified ACTA (Advanced Certificate in Training and Assessment) trainer. He conducts training and assessment in the Community and Social Services Sector and has been a part-time lecturer for the Diploma in Counselling Skills for Edith Cowan University.


Srabanti Ghosh, Academic and Quality Assurance Manager

Srabanti is the Academic and Quality Assurance Manager of Box Hill Singapore Institute . Srabanti has extensive experience in adult learning principles and quality assurance practice. She has Masters in Social Work, Bachelors in Economics and Psychology and currently pursuing Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.

Prior to joining Box Hill Institute Singapore, Srabanti has gained her industry experience in community service sector through Population Services International and Pertapis Children's Home.

Srabanti was the Assistant Project Manager for USAID funded projects at Population Services International. She managed projects on HIV AIDS awareness and control and was instrumental in setting up and managing Wellness Clinic focusing on physiological and psychological needs of HIV infected patients.

As the Assistant Administrator of Pertapis Children's Home, Srabanti worked with children from disadvantaged families. In this capacity she was responsible for case management and represented the organisation at different statutory bodies reporting progress of cases to juvenile court and at advisory board review meetings.

Srabanti brings her knowledge, skills and experience on academic and quality assurance matters to Box Hill Institute Singapore as well as shares her practical industry experience with class participants.
